Smallworld NRM

NRM Electricity

The Electricity module for Smallworld GIS provides the basis for the efficient documentation of complex electricity distribution networks, including their individual or parallel cable sections (multi-line representation).

For electricity networks that are constantly undergoing expansion and modification, this tried-and-tested application not only enables the network to be documented in full. It also provides excellent support for day-to-day planning tasks through the integration of planned installations and equipment.

Last but not least, the module serves as a vital foundation for network operation processes, whether for spatial orientation, data retrieval or as a decision-making aid in asset management.

Network Logic and Data Model

The Smallworld standard module ‘NRM Electricity’ maps the flow of energy from generation (centralised or decentralised feeders) to consumption points, including metering locations; it also maps network isolation statuses. As in the real world, a topologically distinct differentiation is made according to voltage levels:

  • High voltage
  • Medium voltage
  • Low voltage
  • Lighting
  • Telecommunications/information network and empty conduits

Through a wide range of object classes, their interrelationships and the associated network topology, the data model supports all requirements for future-oriented power grid documentation. Individually configurable catalogues ensure a high degree of flexibility and data quality.

In addition to an overview plan and a detailed as-built plan, NRM Electricity also offers comprehensive management and representation of internal structures and schematic plans with a uniform object reference. Added to this is 3D capability through the recording of 3D points for equipment and the resulting longitudinal section view.

SOPHISTICATED Process MODEL

With NRM Electricity, you gain access to numerous tools for the efficient maintenance of the network, such as a wizard for recording service connections or a wide range of dimensioning functions and output options.

Equally well-designed are the analysis functions, such as the identification of supply stations/works, unsupplied connections, feeders, charging infrastructure, etc.

The Electricity module integrates seamlessly into a multi-utility environment alongside the other Smallworld NRM standard modules.

Smallworld Network Statistics

Network structure data must be reported to the Federal Network Agency and published. You can generate this data using the Smallworld Network Statistics module, which forms part of the NRM Electricity module. It contains the modules Network Statistics (number of objects, circuit lengths), Route Analysis (route lengths) and Network Complexity (radial, ring and mesh networks). These queries are deliberately designed to be simple and are largely self-explanatory for GIS users.

Single-line Module

The single-line module enables the documentation of the current network layout in the form of a single line. This allows network operators using the traditional ‘multi-line approach’ to quickly switch to an accurate representation of the cable trench, for example in city centre areas where many cables are laid side by side. more

Operation Analyser

The Operation Analyser provides user-friendly analyses with graphical results for network operations. With just two clicks, you can, for example, identify the nearest switching point, a substation’s feed-in points or unsupplied connections. Read more

Network calculation interfaces

Use up-to-date asset data and performance metrics from the Electricity module in popular grid calculation programmes such as envelio IGP, NEPLAN, PowerFactory, PSS/SINCAL or STANET. In addition, the ‘Direct Power Analysis’ product enables power grid calculations to be carried out directly within Smallworld GIS, for example to simulate grid expansion scenarios. more

Smallworld Pipe Management

With Smallworld Pipe Management for the Electricity, Gas and Water modules, you can make use of a wide range of functions for documenting empty conduit networks and their allocation of broadband and other media. In addition to route alignments, you can visualise the trench cross-section and the pipe management objects it contains. It is also possible to combine this with NRM Electricity, Gas, Water or District Heating. more
